The Truth of Pluralism: Simply Tolerance or a Whole New Religion
By Rayanara D. C. Martin (Santri At-Taqwa College 1 – 16 tahun)
Starting with the Secularization, which is spreading globally, people start to think that religion is only a friend which you could seek help from, which is very far from the worldview, life changing, and sacredly complicated definition we all know. From there, many have now seen religion and everything else to be relative–no value is truly right. Like how Micheal Fackerell once said, “All is relative” thus including religion like said.
Now, this relativism is a product of said secularization which is the result of the Christianity who was destroyed by the greedy popes back in the dark age of the West. Logically, the product of Christianity was supposed to be only for their kind, but here we are seeing Pluralism movements being done inside of our Muslim surroundings.
Pluralism is what they call as a ‘double trouble’. With secularization, Religion and lives are separated. Now with pluralism, religion has no more authorization in life, which is much worse than what secularization could ever do. Without that authorization to mingle people’s lives, religion is no longer compatible to be used as a country’s formula. The pluralism movements that we see nowadays are often caused by the misunderstanding of the definition itself. An instance of this happening is when MUI have set a new regulation, which forbids pluralism inside of Islam. After hearing, the pros would become angry saying on how unlike it is said, pluralism is only a form of tolerance. Now, is it really?
Again, Pluralism is a child of the thought which came from the west, saying on how nothing is actually right–thus just as Abraham Lincoln once said, “No one has the right to choose what is wrong”. This view of just or fairness made people look at religions who doesn’t accept any other as evil, especially with Islam. Hence, many took this view then spread it into their religion, and many of them of course dodged and killed many of the religion’s teachings as a result. Without noticing, the people who’ve done this just scrambled their own religion with someone else’s–and that’s your answer. Pluralism is not only a form of tolerance between religions. However, it is also a very much new religion, made from pieces of ‘truth’ from each religion. Or as other people has put it as a pseudo-theology (fake religion) which believe that any path could lead to God, if done with purity and sincerity.
This pluralism had also been compared with the change of the western view of the universe, going from geocentric to heliocentric. Just like how back then before the view has been spread, religion was seen as the center, with the teachings, their god, and their beliefs revolving beside. Then with pluralism, the center has become the God, with many religions swirling around, with them believing it all would be accepted.
